Heavy Metal

Updated: May 1, 2019

Rock genre includes a strong, virtuous and powerful group of related styles. Driven by the powerful sounds of distorted electric guitars, heavy metal is arguably the most commercially successful rock music genre.

Although the origin of the term heavy metal is widely attributed to novelist William Burroughs, its use dates back to the 19th century. It has also been used to classify certain elements or compounds, as in heavy metal poisoning. Heavy metal appeared in Steppenwolf's lyrics Revived as Wild Wild (1968), and in the early 1970s, rock critics used it to refer to a specific musical style.

In the mid-1960s, British bands like Cream, the Yardbirds and Jeff Beck Group, along with Jimi Hendrix, were often thought to have developed heavier drums, bass and distorted guitar sounds that differentiated heavy metals from all kinds. other rock music. New sounds were encoded in the 1970s by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath with the release of Led Zeppelin II, Deep Purple in Rock and Paranoid, corresponding to heavy riffs, distorted chords, and lyrics. Mysterious singing, guitar and solo drums, and singing styles emanated from the moans of Zeppelin's Robert Plant to the moans of Ozzy Osbourne of Sabbath. By developing increasingly complex and touring stage shows throughout the 1970s to compensate for the lack of radio broadcasting, bands like Kiss, AC / DC, Aerosmith, Judas Priest and Alice Cooper established an international fan group. Traditional heavy metal is characterised by large distorted guitars, strong rhythms, dense bass and drum sounds, and powerful vocals. The different types of heavy metal emphasise differently, changing or ignoring one or more of these attributes. Originating from blues, psychedelic stones and acid rock, heavy metal produces thick, loud sounds, characterised by high distortion amplification, extended guitar, rhythmic drum beats and a powerful overall sound.

The popularity of heavy metal fell during the dance years in the late 1970s, but it became more successful than ever in the 1980s when Def Leppard, Iron Maiden and Saxon led the new wave of metal. British heavyweight, along with the impact of Eddie Van Halen's incredible guitar talent, revived this genre. A wave of metallic iridescence, with sex-bending bands like Mötley Crüe and Ratt, originating from Los Angeles began around 1983; Poison, Guns N, Roses and hundreds of other bands then moved to Los Angeles in hopes of getting record deals. But heavy metal has become a worldwide phenomenon in both fandom and production with the success of the German Scorpion and other bands from Japan to Scandinavia. The most important musical influence of the decade was the adaptation of the progress of chords, symbols and ideals of virtuosity from Baroque models, especially Bach and Vivaldi, with heavy metals. Like Van Halen, guitarists like Ritchie Blackmore (from Deep Purple), Randy Rhoads (with Osbourne) and Yngwie Malmsteen have demonstrated new levels and styles of rock guitar techniques, exploding popular models of heavy metal like monotonous and music.

Heavy metals fragmented into offspring (like metal lite, dead metal and even Christian metal) in the 1980s. A smaller underground scene with harder styles was developed to oppose with more pop-oriented metal of Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and glam bands. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer pioneered the metal industry, highlighted by fast tempo, harsh vocals and guitar timbre, aggression, and criticism or sarcasm. The more widespread styles of heavy metal almost dominated the popular music genre in the late 1980s, but the cohesion of the genre collapsed at the beginning of this decade; bands like Guns N, Rose and Nirvana have pulled fans in different directions, and many fans have also turned to rap music. In the 1990s, many stars of the past decades, such as Van Halen, Metallica and Osbourne, continued to succeed alongside newer groups like Soundgarden, but the heavy metal name is often less used for marketing. This group or to determine their fan community.

Musicians and heavy metal fans have been heavily criticized in the 1980s. Political and academic groups have sprung up to blame the genre and its fans have caused everything from crime. and violence to despair and suicide. But the music defenders have shown that there is no evidence of the crazy and horror discovery of heavy metals, instead of joints, these social diseases. The lyrics and genre images have long mentioned a variety of topics, and its music is more varied and virtuous than critics want to admit.

So there is a vast variety of styles that contribute to heavy metal as a collective, whether it be classic rock, glam rock, black metal or otherwise; it has many genre specific traits that help to distinguish the difference between each of its sub genres.
