Introduction

Welcome to Studio 1

This time we are doing things a little differently, instead of having designated modules where we are taught the specifics of each, instead we are given the opportunity to lead our own development and discovery through out the course.

This concept may be daunting for some but for others its a real chance to really hone in on the skills we want to improve and look at other options that may not have been covered within a set curriculum, needless to say some will swim and some will not.

Elements

There are four main areas in which we will need to show our understanding and application of our skills, these are our 'Baseline Assessment, Transferable Skills, an end of trimester Presentation an Overall Assessment' this is all taught through a concept called Project Based Learning.

There are a total of 27 Learning Outcomes, 10 Transferable Skills, 6 Overall Assessment Criteria and 2 Main Projects we will have to prove in order to pass this trimester, one way we do that is in the form of a 'Developer Diary' such as this one.

There is no time to lose as we head into pitching our first project in week 2

Project 1

In groups (or solo by request), we are to create a simple musical sequence. A mixture of pre-made sound assets or presets and custom made sound assets which are either recorded or created digitally from scratch can be used to achieve the final sound palette. The project will follow a pre-production, production and post production cycle. The short musical sequence may be made in the following formats:

  • Song

  • Instrumental Track

  • Game/Animation/ Film Soundtrack

  • Experimental Music

  • Other on approval
