Audio for Film

For this I had been asked by trimester 5 film student Alfred Beales, to create themes for three specific character in a sci-fi short film he is creating. The film will be set in a post-apocalyptic, near future, outback Australia with emphasis on creating a remote and dystopian feeling.

Referances for the overall theme stem heavily from the 2011 thriller 'Hanna' and sci-fi short film 'Tether' and also modelled around the 2017 neo-noir film 'BladeRunner 2049'

The scores were written by Sam Gorski, Hans Zimmer and The Chemical Brothers respectively.

The tree original characters for the film are Elroy a young boy with the need to try survive in a harsh wilderness, Ratchett an android who raises the boy from a young age and wants him to be prepared for anything that could happen and Orville a half cyborg, half android chasing immortality and self preservation.

Below is a track i have produced as part of the OST for the film using Pro-Tools and one of its native plug-ins (X-Pand2) and the samples found within it.

The idea was to have a light felt melody for the secondary protagonist Elroy, which was accomplished using a piccolo to promote a happy and almost innocent sound. Second was the introduction of a brass section to portray the main protagonist Ratchett, because of his size brass was chosen to give him depth and also because of the timbre of these instruments gives him a mechanical and slightly tensional feel. The final character Orville was introduced with percussion to drive the song and also add the dramatic feel and ties all of the singular elements together.
